When your skin no longer feels like itself

The hardest thing about my skin changing was that I could no longer rely on it.

Dryness, sensitivity, heat, loss of tone and unpredictability seemed to arrive all at once. It felt as though my body was changing faster than I could keep up with, and my skin became the visible reminder of that shift.

My old routine no longer served the changing landscape of my skin.

More products were not the answer

I became tired of industry noise, endless trends and products that promised one result while creating another problem.

What I wanted was something simpler.

A routine that felt nourishing and effective without demanding constant attention. Products that supported my skin without leaving me worried about overdoing it, reacting to it or avoiding the sun.

I no longer wanted complexity, clutter, false hope or doubt.

That became the foundation of the Core Ritual.

What I started craving instead

Comfort

Skincare that felt supportive rather than corrective.

Consistency

Fewer variables. More confidence in how my skin may respond.

Nourishment

Support for the skin barrier without heaviness or overwhelm.

A calmer foundation

As my skin changed, I realised I needed to focus less on doing more and more on doing the essentials well.

That became the foundation of the Hux + Mū Core Ritual.

Two considered steps designed to cleanse gently, replenish deeply and support skin through all life's seasons and changes.

Meet the Core Ritual

SOW

Gentle oil-to-milk cleansing that removes makeup, SPF and daily build-up without leaving skin tight or stripped.

CULTIVATE

A lightweight lipid and antioxidant serum designed to replenish, support and comfort skin that has become drier, more sensitive or less tolerant over time.

Why I formulated two core products

When my skin began to change, I did not want a longer routine.

I wanted fewer decisions, less overwhelm and products that genuinely earned their place.

SOW and CULTIVATE were created to provide the foundation I could not find: gentle cleansing and replenishing support without unnecessary complexity.

A few things you may be wondering

Why does skin become drier during menopause?

As oestrogen levels change through perimenopause and menopause, the skin naturally produces fewer lipids and retains moisture less effectively. Many women notice increased dryness, tightness and a loss of comfort, even if they never considered their skin dry before.

Why has my skin become more sensitive?

Hormonal changes may affect the skin barrier, making skin feel more reactive, easily irritated or less tolerant of products that once felt perfectly fine.

For many women, this is the first time they begin experiencing sensitivity, redness or discomfort. A simpler, more supportive routine can often help reduce some of that overwhelm.

Can I still experience breakouts during menopause?

Yes.

Many women experience the confusing combination of dry skin and hormonal breakouts at the same time. Skin can feel dehydrated, sensitive and prone to congestion simultaneously.

This is one reason why gentle cleansing and barrier support often become more important than harsher, drying approaches.

Do I need more products as my skin changes?

Not necessarily.

When skin feels unsettled, it can be tempting to keep adding new products in search of a solution. Sometimes what helps most is reducing the number of variables and focusing on a consistent foundation of cleansing, nourishment and barrier support.

Can I use the Core Ritual alongside my existing routine?

Yes.

SOW and CULTIVATE work beautifully together as the Hux + Mū Core Ritual, but they can also be used alongside products already in your routine.

Many women choose to simplify for a few weeks while their skin settles, then reintroduce other products as needed.

Why do products I used to love suddenly stop working?

Skin changes through midlife are rarely just about dryness. Shifts in hormones, skin barrier function and sensitivity can alter how your skin responds to products and textures.

Sometimes it is not that the product changed. Your skin did.
